Full Version: Graphics card/TV being gay

Right so since I've installed my 5850 pretty much every game I've played only shows up around 4 available resolutions, the maximum being 1280x800 or something, which on a 32" telly isn't the prettiest thing ever. It's not so bad when I can use the command line on a games shortcut to change it manually, but I'd like to be able to do it more conveniently.

I'm sure I've got rid of the onboard graphics drivers as the only NVidia ones on the add/remove programs list are the PhysX and Stereoscopic 3D drivers.

This is most likely in the wrong direction but if you're plugging into a TV have you checked to see if you can change the TV's display resolution through the TV menu?

My sister has her PC plugged into her telly and it looked rubbish until we figured out we could change the TV's resolution to match the PC's output.

Well my desktop resolution is 1280x720; anything higher than that and everything is too small to read, so I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence that that's the highest resolution that most games make available, or if there's an option I need to choose to overwrite the desktop settings, I don't know.

Well if it's a 720p TV (which is what it sounds like if that's the highest res available to games) that's what you'll want to be displaying at anyway. Modern displays look rough at anything other than native resolution.

I tend to run games at 1600x900, as that's what looks best. With my old card in it would show every resolution up to 1920x1080, so I still wonder if it's a driver issue.
