I'm planning on getting a PS3 so I can catch up on all of those tasty exclusives but I was wondering how to go about hooking it up to my amp with stereo cables.

The XBox comes with one of these:

So you can split audio straight out of the back of the console but there doesn't seem to be a PS3 equivalent. Any ideas? Obviously I could just get a component cable or a composite or whatever it is and split the audio off that but I'd rather stick with HDMI if I could.

Digital Optical Out socket is next to the HDMI port on the back of the PS3.

Sort of like this:

Mine's in a different order. It's an NTSC 160Gb chunky one.

Ah but only have a creaky old analogue amp that only takes RCA cables.

Luckily you can plug a HDMI cable and the standard AV cable that comes in the box in at the same time and take video from one and audio from the other, leaving you with pretty much the same setup as the XBox.

Thanks for the info though. It'll come in handy when I finally get a better amp.

Aha, fair enough.

Though right now the only setup that can match the 360's is if it's RROD'ed.

Hoho. Too bad the one I bought was bricked out of the box. Even my worst XBox managed to limp on for a few months.

Anyway, are you on Playstation XBox Live? We can be online buddies!

I am indeed and you can see for yourself how shite PSN can be by adding me: SpamMonkeyDeluxe.

That reminds me, I really need to get an Xbox Live subscription at some point.
